Day of the Immigrant
On 1 May 2006, as I headed to the Bart station on Mission Street in San Francisco, I was surprised to see the street relatively quiet. Normally Mission Street is packed with people, street merchants, heavy traffic, but today it was foreign. The majority of the shops were closed and people were coming and going to their destinations via Mission, but certainly not shopping nor visiting with one another. They were a voice together as they entered and exited Bart for one reason: to protest Immigrants being criminals. They truly united on this day, their day, "Day of the Immigrant". This gallery shares with you the photographs along Mission Street in the Inner Mission District of San Francisco and connecting streets. Photography by Zabrina Tipton.
